Bill Tandy

He's talented musician who just happens to handle the job of resident curmudgeon during Male Call.

Bill Tandy was born in Minneapolis and called both St. Louis and Chicago home while growing up. His earliest radio memory involved listening to the late Wally Phillips on WGN. Other radio personalities who inspired Bill include Gary Burbank of WLW in Cincinnati and Steve Dahl of WLS in Chicago. But for Bill, they didn’t hold a candle to Dick and Charlie. “I was always a devout listener of Dick and Charlie. I am proud to have been their friends before my job at KI. I never even thought I would be on the air, but like many, I always used to think ‘I wish I could be on that show just once.’", he said. While Bronson could make Bill angry, as he could most listeners, Bill often agreed with him. “(Dick) said things that many of us agreed with, but were afraid to voice,” he said. Bill also treasured his friendship with Charlie Cropper. “He turned out to be one of the finest gentlemen I ever had the privilege to know,” Tandy said.

Eight years later, Bill finds a great deal of pride in being associated with WWKI. “(This is) a station that has such a great listening audience, and one that helps the community with projects like We Care", he said.

Bill also believes radio’s importance to most citizens should never be underestimated. “People watch TV, listen to ipods, but when the weather turns bad, they turn on the radio. I'm always amazed when driving to Chicago that people in East Chicago are listening to WWKI. I should watch what I say!”
