WWKI On Air Staff

Kenny Beasley

Most of our announcers remember a fondness for radio among their earliest memories. Few people, though, can actually point to a present employer as a powerful influence in their lives. Kokomo native Kenny Beasley remembers sitting with a tape recorder at the age of three. “(I was) reading the ads from the newspaper. I would also decide to sing the national anthem because it was noon – I was listening to KI even then,” he said.

Even grade school offenses seemed to point to one thing: radio. “The only thing I really got in trouble for in school was talking too much. I guess that was the first sign that I had better find a job where I can talk for a living,” Beasley said.

Kenny loves radio’s ability to cross all boundaries – he meets people from everywhere. “Generally, we are only surrounded by people in our immediate lives. Being in radio has been a great opportunity for me to get to know more people and make new friends!”

Kenny’s pride of WWKI begins – of course – with We Care. “Every year, I am amazed that we are able to help provide a service to the community. While the station plays a minor role, the fact that everyone here volunteers their time to help out We Care without getting paid for it is a wonderful sight to see,” Kenny said. Radio’s ability to get information quickly to the people who need it most is also a source of pride for him. “I am very proud to be a member of the KI Storm Team. We have received awards for our coverage and, while that is nice, the biggest reward is knowing that someone was kept safe and informed by what we were doing on the air,” he said.

Kenny is a talented singer, too. This one was taken during the 2009 We Care Benefit concert.
