WWKI has played host to some gifted people over the years. The three people behind the creation of a certain local charity top the list. But one of us might be considered a real prodigy, especially when you consider Ryan Greggory began to play the piano at the age of two.
At the age of two Ryan started playing the pew at church. “I would prop the hymnal up against the back part of the pew, stand facing backwards, and play the pew,” he said. You might expect this from a toddler, but his foot was also operating an imaginary pedal. “By age five, my father was able to teach me the three basic chords that make up modern music: tonic, subdominant, and dominant. From there, I took those chords and starting playing everything,” Ryan said. By his high school years, he was playing music for adult church services.
Ryan’s passions also include broadcasting and meteorology, and he majored in both areas at Ball State University. The rewarding part of being in radio for him comes from being able to put his growing weather knowledge to work. “(I enjoy) helping people – whether that be through providing community event information or lifesaving weather alerts,” Ryan said.
