Dog gone it

Don’t let your pup behind the wheel. A friend of the four-legged kind caused a minor accident after he bumped a gear shift in the truck, where he sat – putting the truck in motion. The truck rolled down the street before crashing into a parked vehicle at N. Buckeye Street Monday evening at 5:30. The joy-riding dog’s owner, David Turner, said he was helping pack Buddy Bags and left his dachshund in the truck. What a “ruff” ride.

City of Kokomo is keeping residents safe with its latest weather-safety movement. Kokomo is not immune to natural disasters and the city said it’s helping residents become proactive by offering weather radios at a discounted price of $9.00—weather radios retail for $38.00 – during National Severe Weather Preparedness Week (Mar. 10 through Mar. 14).

Greg Goodnight, City of Kokomo mayor, told us being informed at any hour is the first step to protecting yourself during spring weather – a season known for producing tornadoes.

“Weather radios can wake you up in the middle of the night, letting you know that severe weather is heading your way,” said Mayor Goodnight. “They are a reliable means to ensure that severe weather conditions do not catch Kokomo residents by surprise.”

The weather radios are available for purchase at City Hall, 100 S. Union St., in the “Welcome Center” located on the first floor, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
