The price for not filing
It’s tax day, and if you’re one of the millions of Americans running out of time to file – you’re going to want to go ahead and do the dreaded chore of tax filing. According to Daily Finance, paying a little time to taxes is much better than what you’ll be paying the IRS in penalties. A 5 percent monthly fee on how much you owe that can increase to 25 percent, a $135 fine (if you file past 60 days). If you’re due for a return, you’re in luck – penalties only apply to those who owe taxes.
County tax hikes
A tax hike will hit Howard County property owners. Property tax bills will be mailed this week and taxpayers could face a bill that’s $150 more than the bill they received last year. According to Kokomo Tribune, the increase is caused by a smaller homestead tax credit collection and a decrease in the county’s net-assessed valuation.
