Sprouting up this spring

A bare landscape will be no more along U.S. 31 interchanges. Mayor Greg Goodnight has worked with INDOT to add 300 trees to medians and right-of-ways after the construction of the new bypass tore down hundreds of aged and mature trees.
Goodnight told us INDOT has planted trees in other communities facing the same issue.

“During the US 31 corridor project, the State removed hundreds of mature trees leaving a vast empty landscape where the new highway cuts through,” said Mayor Goodnight. “This is in stark contrast to communities like Westfield and Carmel, where the State installed landscaping when new interchanges and overpasses were built.  Our community deserves the same level of consideration.”

The planting sites will include: Bur Oaks, American Sycamores, Red Maples, Sweetgum and Eastern Redbuds.
