Curbs being installed at Markland Avenue

INDOT maintenance crew will schedule traffic separator curbs between opposing lanes of State Road 22 and Markland Ave during the week of Apr. 28. The “Tuff Curbs” will line Markland Ave from the east side of its intersection with Cooper Street to the east side of its intersection with Reed Road. Finally, Markland Ave from the west side of its intersection with Reed Road. The curbs will help prevent crashes; according to state officials, 241 crashes have happened in those problem spots during the past six years.

Man involved in hit and run could face 7 years

A man responsible for killing a 13-year-old boy in a hit and run crash in August could face seven years in prison. Randall K. Rector was arrested Sept 27. Policd discovered Rector as the driver after he tried to commit suicide; police investigated Rector’s home and discovered his truck matched the description of the truck that hit Christian Reede while he was riding a moped.
