Fairgrounds Coliseum reopens for Central Indiana

Thursday marked the grand reopening of the Fairgrounds Coliseum. The 123-year-old venue underwent a $63 million renovation to become the only modern mid-sized multi-purpose facility in Central Indiana. The coliseum will seat 6,500 event goers for concerts, ECHL Indy Fuel games (affiliated with Chicago Blackhawks), IUPUI Men’s Basketball games and animal shows during Indiana State Fair. The upgraded venue’s makeover also came with contemporary lighting, a bar, and features upscale food carts offered by The Savor Society.

Cindy Hoye, Indiana State Fair Executive Director, said no creative corners were cut in the renovations of the Coliseum, which were financed through bonds payable with commission revenues and funds raised by Indiana State Fair Foundation.

“The new Coliseum is a one-of-a-kind family friendly facility that is ready to bring more memorable experiences to Hoosiers of all ages for many more years,” Hoyer said.

Country acts are making some of the first memories with Hunter Hayes playing the new venue August 9 and Lynyrd Skynyrd with Jamey Johnson July 31.
