Downtown development
Downtown Kokomo is building its way to a better community and will announce a major downtown construction project today at 11 a.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall. The announcement will discuss how the city will develop a 14-acre area downtown Kokomo, which coincides with flood mitigation. City leaders will give details about the first phase of the city’s flood mitigation program. Lindsay Fisher will be reporting on the press conference with more details later today.
Dedication set for Chrysler plant Tuesday
An old plant got a new facelift to open its doors for 850 Chrysler employees. Sergio Marchionne, Chrysler Group LLC Chairman and CEO, will be in Tipton tomorrow to dedicate the newly renovated plant in Tipton, located at the northeast corner of US 31 and Ind. State Road 28. Chrysler purchased the plant in February 2013 and invested $162 million to assemble nine-speed transmissions. Lt. Governor Sue Ellsperman and City Of Tipton Mayor Don Havens will also be on hand for the plant tours and dedication. The plant opens to media at 11:30 and the dedication kicks off at 2:30 p.m.
Kokomo Speedway’s night of racing
It’s not a Monday without talking Sunday night at Kokomo Speedway. The Mother’s Day Mudslinger brought on some of the best dirt-track racing. Dave Darland won the show over second-place finisher Justin Grant. Jon Stanbrough crossed the finish line at third while Bryan Clauson, who started on the pole, rounded out the fourth spot.

Kokomo is one lucky city. A $27.5 million Hoosier Lotto ticket was sold in Kokomo Saturday. The big-money ticket was sold at the Marsh at 208 Southway blvd. and hasn’t been claimed yet.
