The annual Relay for Life
Relay for Life kicks off today at 3 p.m. at Maplecrest Middle School. The 24-hour fundraiser is fun for all; as survivors, volunteers, walkers and big-hearts support American Cancer Society. Eighty teams and 800 participants will walk themed laps throughout the day and night to tell cancer: “Take a hike.”
Lisa Holliday, Relay for Life chair, said the annual benefit is something special to the community and those who participate.
“Cancer is serious, but we’re making the fundraising needed to fight it fun,” Holliday said. “At midnight, the Twist of Darkness crew will be there to do zombie makeup on participants; so, we’ll have a zombie walk on Friday the 13th, right before midnight, with a full moon.”
Holliday added families can come join the fun without having to walk or register. Bounce houses and much more will be open to kids all afternoon Saturday.

Midget Week gets racing
USAC midget week wheeled into its first night in Putnamville at Lincoln Park Speedway last night. Dave Darland won the 30-lap midget feature; despite Tanner Thorson starting at the top spot. Thorson spun on the original start—giving Darland an early start as the leader. Tracy Hines came in second; Rico Abreu finished third – despite a May 25th crash that broke his collar bone. Bryan Clauson rounded out the top four after starting 18th. USAC’s Midget Week continues tonight in Bloomington; Saturday night in Lawrenceburg; and the point champion will be announced after Midget Week’s final race at Kokomo Speedway Sunday night.
