Community unites after toddler's death

A family’s painful loss of a toddler is bringing a community together to help 2-year-old Daymian Newell’s parents with funeral expenses. The toddler’s death was ruled as a drowning Monday and since then the town of Greentown has raised more than $1,700 for the family – one individual even donated a burial plot for the child’s parents.

Although fundraising continue for the family at www.gofundme.com for Daymian Newell, Greentown Youth Baseball League is hosting a fundraiser for the Newell family Friday night following closing ceremonies. An outdoor movie will help the family: Admission is $2 for kids, $4 adults, $10 for a family; concessions that evening will also benefit the Newell family.

Building on up

The Armstrong Landon Building downtown is open for business. The new downtown digs are home to First Farmer Bank and Trust and Ivy Tech administration. City of Kokomo held a ribbon-cutting ceremony yesterday to celebrate the four-story building’s return to business. The Male Call crew will host Mayor Greg Goodnight on the show Friday to hear about more ribbon-cutting ceremonies on the way.
