Kokomo's economy growth
Kokomo’s economy is on the way up, according to recent data released from Bureau of Economic Analysis. The city of Kokomo has exhibited a 3.3 percent growth in real gross domestic product for 2013 – the second fastest growth in the state of Indiana. Since 2009, Kokomo has had one of the largest economic upturns in the country, according to Bureau of Economic Analysis. For 2013, Kokomo’s reak GDP nearly doubled from 2.5 billion in 2009 to 2013’s $4.1 billion.
Mayor Greg Goodnight said the new report shows that the city’s progress is moving economy in the right direction.
“Kokomo’s economy is growing at nearly double the national rate, and this is a direct result of making smart strategic choices,” Goodnight said.
The airport expansion
A recent grant for Kokomo Municipal Airport will allow for more international travel. The Federal Aviation Administration has given the airport $2,268,125.00 to extend the airport’s main runway to 6,000 feet for the accommodation of larger airplanes and increased travel.
Mayor Greg Goodnight said the proposed expansion will be an asset to Kokomo’s international companies like Chrysler, General Motors, Delphi and Haynes International.
“Expanding the Kokomo Municipal Airport’s runway meets the demand expressed by our international companies,” Kokomo Mayor Greg Goodnight said.
