Kokomo to announce baseball team’s name
City of Kokomo has picked a name, manager and a logo for its new baseball team with the Prospect League. The team’s name and look will be unveiled Monday during a city announcement at 2:30 in City Council Chambers. The name-the-team contest winner will also be announced Monday and rewarded with a $2,500 cash prize and season tickets for the baseball team.
Howard County brings in $1.56 million
Howard County brought in $1.56 million Wednesday after selling 109 properties during an annual delinquent property tax sale. The money from the sale will be used to pay back taxes and liens. The county also collected $538,000 in taxes from 203 property owners.
Governor Mike Pence didn’t apply for Pre-K grant
Governor Mike Pence has made a last-minute decision to not apply for a federal grant that would have brought $80 million for pre-school or low-income children. Pence said he didn’t apply for the grant because he was concerned about the regulations that came with it, stating: “I believe Indiana must develop our own pre-K program for disadvantaged children without federal intrusion.”
Students helping students
Northwestern High School will be home to a color run Saturday at 1 p.m. The half-mile run will raise money for Special Olympics. The fundraising-event is all hosted by Northwestern Student Athlete Leadership Team at Northwestern Cross Country Course.
