Kokomo opens parking garage
Downtown Kokomo has acquired more parking spaces with the official opening of its first four-story parking garage. The city opened the first three floors of the parking garage to the public Monday morning — leaving the fourth floor closed for contractor parking. The Walnut Street garage will offer 400 spaces with 80 spots reserved for county government employees. Upon completion, the parking garage will hold a 39-unit apartment complex on its top floor. The apartments will be finished by March 2015.
 
Peru man arrested in meth lab discovery

A 27-year-old Peru man was arrested for running a meth lab in a Peru motel room. Police were investigating a report of battery when they entered Budget Inn Motel in Peru; and discovered the meth lab Nickolus Toepfer had allegedly been operating from his room. Toepfer is being held in Miami County jail on a $31,000 bond.
 

Unemployment improves in Indiana

Indiana unemployment has dropped from nearly 8% in early 2013 to 5.7% today. The labor force growth in Indiana has increased by 50,000 in 2014. In the recent Economic Outlook Panel, IU Kelley School of Business’s Kyle Anderson reiterated the Hoosier state’s financial progress by saying: “This is the best economic outlook I’ve seen in 5 years.”
