Why oh why: Goosebumps edition

By Lindsay Fisher

So, you're watching a movie of terror. Spoiler alert: Everyone will make horrible decisions that provokes the deaths of all the characters — except the lead. But, right before you throw your popcorn bucket in fear, little bumps raise up on your skin. The goosebumps are back. But, why?

Turns out those tiny bumps form all over your skin because you're hairy — even if your hair mass doesn't look like a sasquatch– you still have hair all over your body. Muscles are attached to each and every one of those hairs. Once the muscles tigthen, those little hairs pull skin up into the air. Just a heads up, those muscles tighten when you're freaked out, cold or even nervous.

Overall, you can blame your lack of full-body waxing and muscles for goosebumps because when the hairs pull your skin, you get the chicken skin.
