Babysitting has gotten so lucrative, your kid could really be cashing in. If only he wasn't a delinquent who can't be trusted to keep a plant alive for three hours, right?
A new survey by the website Care.com found the average babysitter today gets $13.50 an hour. That's way up from $10.50 an hour just five years ago and well above minimum wage.
The survey also found 26 percent of people give their sitters an extra tip on top of their hourly rate.
All of that means it's a strong market for good babysitters to cash in.
Eighty seven percent of parents say they'd give their babysitter a raise if she asked and 20 percent would steal one from a friend.
Still, as for what really matters to parents, 49 percent say it's about how much her kids like her. Only 3 percent say it's about how much she charges.
