David Letterman’s last episode of “The Late Show” drew nearly 13.8 million viewers on Wednesday night. That’s his biggest audience in two decades — since a February 1994 episode following the Winter Olympics.
Several other notable episodes came close: 13.5 million people tuned in when Dave finally had OPRAH on so they could end their “feud”; and 11.7 million people watched Dave’s first episode back after having heart surgery in February of 2000.
The finale did fall short of his first episode in 1993, which attracted 15.2 million people; and it also failed to surpass Jay Leno’s last episode of “The Tonight Show”, which had 14.6 million viewers last year.
Speaking of “Letterman”, they didn’t waste any time before trashing the show’s set. The “New York Post” says the George Washington Bridge from the background was spared, but everything else was sent to the dump.
