If you’re a rich sports fan who can’t get enough of the Patriots’ “DeflateGate” scandal, here’s your chance to own a part of history.
One of the balls from this year’s AFC Championship Game is being auctioned off, with bidding starting at $25,000. The auction is up at Lelands.com — and the site’s founder says it could end up going for six figures.
Patriots receiver Brandon LaFell gave the ball to a female Patriots fan in the first row of the end-zone, after LeGarrette Blount scored a touchdown at the end of the third quarter.
By that point in the game, the officials had been tipped off about the deflated balls, and so this one would’ve been inflated properly. But the Wells Report found that the deflated balls from the first half were not thrown out, they were simply re-inflated for the second half.
Once the fan found that out, she decided to cash in. The ball comes with her ticket to the game, and a notarized letter affirming that her story “is true and factual.” The auction will close on July 17th. (Here’s the link.)
