Yesterday was Amazon’s first “Prime Day”, which they pitched as a day with so many sales that it would be bigger than Black Friday.
The verdict is: not a chance.
The consensus online is that Prime Day was a huge flop for two big reasons. One, the deals weren’t particularly good. Two, the products they put on sale were way too random.
It looked like Amazon was using the day to unload their inventory of things no one buys. As someone tweeted: “Amazon Prime Day is like shopping at a garage sale. You go in with high expectations and walk away with more junk.”
Some of their big sales included a 1995 Franklin Half Dollar for $70; a two-pack of ski masks for $12; a 90-pack of dishwasher detergent tabs for $14; and a nine-pack of gel replacements for something called a Slendertone Abdominal Belt for $16.
On the bright side, they were selling a 55 gallon drum of LUBE for $1,361. That’s 46 percent off the list price and about $5,000 less than if you bought that much lube in individual bottles. Go Prime Day!
