The things college freshmen don’t know

It’s that time of year again where we make you feel super old — even if you’re only 22.

Kids are heading to college right now, so Beloit College in Wisconsin just released its annual “Mindset List.” That’s the one that gets into the heads of this year’s college freshmen — most of whom were born in 1997.

Here are their nine best insights:

1. Princess Diana, the Notorious B.I.G., and Mother Teresa were dead before most of them were born.

2. They’ve never known a world without hybrids cars. The Honda Insight went on sale in America in 1999 and the Toyota Prius started in 2000, so they won’t have any memory of a time before them.

3. They’ve never known a world without “South Park”. It debuted in 1997 and has been going strong their entire lives.

4. They’ve also never known a world without “Harry Potter”, which also debuted in 1997.

5. They never licked a postage stamp — not just because they don’t send letters, but because they could always use stamps that you peel and stick.

6. They’ve been able to Google stuff since they were old enough to use computers.

7. They’ve had Wi-Fi access for pretty much their entire lives.

8. They barely remember TV before it was in HD.

9. They’ve never seen baseball without inter-league play, which started in the 1997 season. Before then, American League and National League teams only played each other in the World Series.
