Have you ever been with your friends or family, and pulled out your phone to avoid talking to the ACTUAL human beings right in front of you? Of course you have. That’s pretty much what cell phones are for now.
According to a new survey by the Pew Research Center, 23 percent of us have done it, and 6 percent of us do it all the time. Actually, that number should probably be higher. Here are a few other results from the survey.
1. 12 percent of people think it’s okay to use your phone at a family dinner; 5 percent say it’s okay during a meeting; 5 percent say it’s okay in a movie theater; and 4 percent are cool with you using it in church.
2. 79 percent of us have had to deal with people talking loudly on their cell phones in public; and 53 percent of us have eavesdropped on someone’s conversation and heard something intimate.
3. 82 percent of us think it usually hurts a conversation when people are checking their phones.
4. And finally, even though this math totally doesn’t work, 90% of people say the last time they whipped out their phone at a social event, it was only because someone else did it first.
