Woman legally changes her name to get Facebook access

Facebook is really hardcore about people using their real names. If they catch you with a fake one, they’ll suspend or delete your account. That means you lose all your photos, contacts, and everything else.

That sounds pretty upsetting, but this still seems like an extreme response.

Jemma Rogers of London signed up for Facebook with a fake name in 2008, because she wanted to avoid friend requests from people she didn’t want to have contact with. But she got caught earlier this year and her account was suspended.

So she just went to court and had her name legally changed to the fake one she’d used on Facebook; just so she could get her account back. That fake name? Jemmaroid von Laalaa.

She sent the proof of her new name to Facebook, but she’s still waiting to hear whether they’re going to lift her suspension.

Jemmaroid says: “I can’t believe I’m stuck with this stupid name and I still can’t get in.”
