Bunker Hill barely spared of bankruptcy
Saved by the… tax refund is the story for Bunker Hill. The town escaped bankruptcy by a check from the IRS. The town has been running on financial fumes for the past three years – citing the former Clerk Treasurer Sarah Betzner who didn’t get state budget approvals for three years. According to Kokomo Tribune, Bunker Hill would have emptied the last amount of change in its pockets after next month’s pay roll for its eight employees. However, after a recent audit uncovered the town has overpaid on taxes since 2007 the town made calls to the state to get an expedited tax return of $32,000.
