Let’s Play Ball

City of Kokomo is swinging at a brand-new baseball stadium. Mayor Greg Goodnight announced Monday a special baseball stadium committee unanimously recommended building a brand-new baseball stadium in downtown Kokomo. Goodnight said the project will cost $11.5 million: $2.5 million will be allocated for a three-phase flood mitigation program to repurpose 14 acres of flood-prone areas downtown, where the stadium will be built; $9 million will be designated for a state-of-the art baseball stadium. The stadium will seat 4,000 and feature indoor suites and a press box. Four Howard County teams will call the new field their home turf including: Kokomo Schools, Taylor Community Schools, Western School Corporation and Northwestern School Corporation. The baseball stadium is expected to be completed April 2015.

Highland Park’s baseball stadium, which recently underwent renovations of its own, will stay put and host little league games.
