Action was in high speeds at Kokomo Speedway Sunday night. The Bob Darland Memorial race – a rescheduled show after last weekend’s rainout – brought on a flip from Jon Stanbrough early in Lap 1, prompting a restart. Moments later, Dalten Gabbard bicycled in turn 1 – during the restart and collected Shane Cottle, Kevin Thomas Jr. and CJ Leary. In the end, it was Robert Ballou who made it to Victory Lane for the Sunday-night feature.

Kokomo Schools get back to school tomorrow and, this year, the school will host dozens of new teachers. Mayor Greg Goodnight hosted the new educators in City Hall last week as a welcome to Kokomo Schools.

Taste of Kokomo is getting ready to twirl its fork in Foster Park with 25-plus restaurants offering the best tastes of their best dishes. The Aug. 16 event is an end-of-summer highlight for Kokomo and, this year, you can help be a part of it as a volunteer. The food-filled event raises money for United Way and you can make the event the best yet by registering to volunteer at United Way, call 411.

Kokomo High School Marching Band took on the Indiana State Fair stage for band day Saturday. The team made it to the top 16 and moved on to the finals Saturday night. Muncie High School won the finals.
