Elwood man sentenced to 55 years
An Elwood man responsible for his sister-in-law's death has been sentenced. George Knotts was charged in the 2014 stabbing of Linda Speer, when he choked the woman and stabbed her 14 times. Knotts was sentenced to 55 years in prison — as part of a plea agreement that included a guilty plea. Knotts chose not to speak at the sentencing hearing. Speer's surviving family members told Knotts they would never forgive him.
Indianapolis fires back at RFRA
Indianapolis City-County Council passed a resolution Monday night to show its opposition to Religious Freedom Restoration law. The motion was introduced by 16 council members on both sides of aisle. It passed in a 24-4 vote.
The resolution will now be sent to Gov. Mike Pence.
Although the resolution makes no changes to the new law, leaders say it's meant to send a strong message to the Indiana governor.
