Tammy wakes you up every weekday from 5 AM to 9:30 AM on Hit Country 100.5 KI. Tammy is a Howard County native, with deep roots in Kokomo.
In telling Tammy’s story, you can easily sum it up with “Local Girl Does Good”. She’s a Taylor High School grad whose radio career took her to major market recognition. She came back to her Howard County roots to use her considerable talent here at WWKI.
Like many of us, Tammy grew up listening to some of the greatest radio announcers in the industry. “I remember being fascinated by personalities early on – from the radio stations my parents listened to, the WIFE (Indianapolis) good guys and Bouncin’ Bill Baker (WIBC, Indianapolis).” But the first real inspiration for Tammy was a notorious rock station out of Chicago: The Big 89, WLS. “My life changed when I heard my first superjock, the great Larry Lujack. I wanted THAT job! He was having so much fun, and in turn I did too. It made me feel happy listening to Lujack, Little Tommy, John Records Landecker and on and on.”
Tammy’s first radio job was at WZWZ here in Kokomo, and her resume includes major market call letters like WFBQ, WENS, WKLR and most recently WFMS in Indianapolis. But it’s here at WWKI where Tammy takes a lot of pride in what she does, especially our community involvement through We Care.
Unlike many radio announcers, Tammy has never had to work at anything else between radio jobs. “The most rewarding thing about radio is getting to do a job I love everyday,” she says.
